Codin-Sorel Ureche

Following my diploma in Applied Physics from the Berlin-University of Applied Science in April 1994, I have accepted a one-year contract with the R&D-team of Hahn-Meitner-Institut as a Process-Engineer for hetero-junctions for solar cell-applications.   In a time when  the price for a  Wp of mono-crystalline Si-technology was 18€ (inflation corrected) the  applicable  PV-technology did not seem to satisfy any condition for  large scale production.

In the progress of  a governmentally initiated economic development, Dresden became the acceptance for bidding for two semiconductor factories, Infineon in 1994 and AMD in 1996.

This became the trigger for my professional career  for a period of almost 11 years. Under the flag of Applied Materials, a company which I’ve joined in October 1995, I started to support as a Customer Engineer the yield improving programs  of Infineon, AMD, Samsung, ST and  Soitec.

10 years after the "1000 Roofs-Program" which begun in 1991 in Berlin  and many billion of dollars of subsidies later, the photovoltaic industry in Germany begun to take shape.

For a period of 9 years beginning of May 2006, I’ve worked with Tier 1 customers on different cost-reduction and profit growing projects.

At ever-Q -a joint venture between Q-Cells, Evergreen Solar and REC-  I was tasked with yield and efficiency growing measures for the 100 MW PV-module production based on string-ribbon solar cells.

Within systaic (August 2008-January 2009), an EPC-company for solar projects I was the manager for a 256 MW-roof-integrated (BIPV) installation near Cagliari-Sardinia. Besides the commission of suppliers and service providers I was responsible for controlling a budget of 1 billion €.

Dow Corning -a joint venture between Dow Chemical and Corning Glass- assigned me beginning of July 2009 with the vertical integration of silicone-based materials into the automated production of solar modules of all technologies and purposes.

When I’ve joined Masdar PV in October 2011-an Applied Materials SunFab customer, who was about to become the leader in module-efficiency in the double-junction a-Si-micro-c-Si-class- I took the responsibility for the built-in product quality and overall system performance.

2 years later in October 2013 I’ve been appointed by Amphenol -world-wide no. 2 in the connector business- as a Business Development Manager for the solar and energy storage markets in Germany and Northern Europe.
